How to claim a pOAP

When you reserve a POAP with your email address, you are reserving the right to mint that POAP to an Ethereum wallet/address at a later date. This means that the POAP is not minted to (stored on) the blockchain. The POAP is still yours forever: however, it will not inherit the benefits of the blockchain (immutability, indefinability of ownership, etc.) until it is minted. You will need an Ethereum address to mint the POAP.

1. Set up your wallet

The easiest wallet for an Ethereum address is Metamask via your Phone: (Skip this step, if you already have a wallet and/or know your Ethereum address)

Firstly: do not download MetaMask from anywhere other than the official app store appropriate to your device/OS. Cloned versions of MetaMask are out there that are programmed to record your Secret Recovery Phrase as soon as it’s generated. To avoid falling victim to these scams, make sure you download the official MetaMask app from the app store on your device, and not from any other source.

iOS

  • Open the App Store and hit the search button in the bottom right. Input MetaMask into the search bar.
  • Either click ‚Get‘ or tap on the name of the app to see more details. Complete the usual App Store download confirmation process.
  • Once installed, open the app and follow the prompts to create your wallet.
  • Back up your Secret Recovery Phrase somewhere safe and offline!

Android

  • Open the Play Store and search for „MetaMask“. The official MetaMask app looks like the screenshot below. Be VERY CAREFUL that you don’t install a fake MetaMask app! Look for the one with 10M+ downloads.

  • Tap ‚Install‘ and wait for the process to finish.
  • Once installed, open the app and follow the prompts to create your wallet.
  • Back up your Secret Recovery Phrase somewhere safe and offline!

2. Claim your POAP (with the Ethereum address out of your wallet)

Open the „Claim your POAPs“ link e.g. on your mobile (if your Metamask wallet is there) and either input an email to reserve it or better, copy your Ethereum address e.g. from your Metamask and paste it into the field. Press mint POAP.

After a short while you will see the screen below and your POAP was created successfully.

It’s important to note that although these POAPs are now held by your wallet, most wallets cannot display POAPs natively. This means that you’ll need to use the POAP App to view the collection held within your wallet. This is what it looks like in the POAP app.
